Desai Shan

Dr. Desai Shan is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Health and Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland. She was an Ocean Frontier Institute postdoctoral fellow in Schulich Law School, Dalhousie University. She holds a Ph.D. in socio-legal study and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University, UK. She is an affiliated research fellow at the Seafarers’ International Research Centre, Cardiff University. Her research expertise is in maritime law, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, and maritime safety. Dr. Shan’s research examines maritime occupational health and safety challenges, seafarers’ rights, challenges for seafarers following workplace injuries and in the process of return to work.
